Permobil TiLite ZRA

Permobil TiLite ZRA

Permobil

The TiLite ZRA is a fully adjustable, custom-built active wheelchair designed around the individual user’s measurements rather than off-the-shelf frame sizes. Every frame is made to measure only after your order is placed, giving a level of personalised fit that reduces compromise and improves overall function and comfort. This bespoke approach, known as TiFit, sets TiLite apart from many conventional adjustable chairs built from standard pre-bent parts .

The ZRA uses a mono-tube titanium frame, distinguished by a minimalist, modern look with 1.25″ tubing that delivers strength, durability, and a smooth, balanced ride. Titanium’s high strength-to-weight ratio also contributes to effective vibration dampening and durability, making it a long-term choice for active users who want a responsive wheelchair without unnecessary weight .

A hallmark of the ZRA is its full adjustability. Thanks to TiLite’s Precision Lock Technology, key elements such as seat height, centre of gravity, backrest angle, and camber can be adjusted easily — often with the user in the chair — without the need for predefined slots or complex tools. This lets you fine-tune the setup to match posture, balance, and propulsion preferences, and to adapt over time as needs evolve .

The ergonomic frame shape also incorporates an Ergonomic Advantage bend that sits the user lower in the chair for better pelvic stability and alignment. Adjustable camber and Tru-Fit rear seat height options give even more control over balance and handling, which many users notice in daily propulsion and manoeuvring .

Component options are extensive and user-focused. Alongside well-known wheel and handrim choices (such as lighter performance wheels or ergonomic handrims), the ZRA can be specified with a wide array of footrests, castors, sideguards, and backrest styles. As a chair within the Permobil family, it is also compatible with pressure care backrests and cushions, including lightweight air options, so it can support users with different seating needs.

Visually, the ZRA’s clean, modern mono-tube design distinguishes it from many traditional active chairs. A variety of frame colours and finishes — including a satin natural titanium with optional permanent tattoo-style accents — allows personalisation that feels considered rather than clinical .

In our experience, the ZRA works particularly well for active wheelchair users who value precision fit, adjustability, and refined ride quality — whether that’s for everyday propulsion, community mobility, or sport-focused use. Its adjustability also makes it suitable for people whose needs may change over time, letting professionals and users tune posture, balance, and performance without replacing the chair.

Comparing the TRA and ZRA:

The TRA and ZRA share a lot of core DNA: both are titanium, fully adjustable, custom-built active wheelchairs using the TiFit process and Precision Lock Technology. The choice between them is less about quality — both are high-end — and more about ride feel and priorities.

The ZRA uses a mono-tube frame and is often favoured by users who want the lightest possible adjustable chair with a very clean, minimalist look. It offers excellent vibration damping and adjustability, and works particularly well for users who value simplicity, low weight, and a classic mono-tube aesthetic.

The TRA, by contrast, prioritises rigidity and energy transfer. Its swept-in dual-tube frame increases stiffness and reduces flex, which many experienced users perceive as a more direct, responsive ride. While it is fractionally heavier on paper, the difference is small, and in use the added rigidity often outweighs the marginal weight increase for users focused on propulsion efficiency.

In short:

  • Choose the ZRA if you want the lightest adjustable TiLite with a mono-tube design and a very clean visual profile.

  • Choose the TRA if you value maximum rigidity, propulsion efficiency, and the distinctive feel and look of the T-series dual-tube frame.

We often find that users who are highly active, technically confident, and sensitive to frame flex tend to prefer the TRA, while those prioritising absolute weight and simplicity often lean toward the ZRA.
