The Quantum Outback is a powerchair designed first and foremost for outdoor use, aimed at people who want to travel beyond pavements and smooth paths with confidence. It uses large, aggressive 15-inch tyres that generate strong traction on loose and uneven ground, allowing the chair to remain stable and predictable across grass, forest tracks, gravel and hilly terrain. With ground clearance of around 12.5 cm, the Outback is far better equipped to cope with ruts, roots and obstacles than conventional indoor–outdoor powerchairs.
Climbing ability is equally important in real-world outdoor use, and the Outback is rated to handle slopes of up to around 8 degrees. In practice, this allows it to tackle sustained inclines and undulating terrain without the hesitation or wheel slip that smaller-wheeled chairs often show. Quantum’s Smooth Ride Suspension plays a key role here, absorbing bumps and vibration as the chair moves over rough ground and helping to keep the ride controlled rather than jarring.
Power is supplied by a pair of high-capacity 95 Ah batteries, delivering a real-world range of up to approximately 17 miles under outdoor conditions. This makes the Outback suitable for longer journeys where recharging partway through the day is not realistic. A full LED lighting package is fitted as standard, improving visibility and safety when travelling in lower light or changing weather.
Seating can be specified in two distinct ways, depending on priorities. The Contoured Seating option is more straightforward and robust, with wipeable upholstery and a higher weight capacity of up to 159 kg. It includes practical features such as a removable seat cushion, adjustable seat depth, optional flip-up supports and a manually reclining backrest, making it well suited to outdoor environments where durability and ease of cleaning matter.
Alternatively, the Outback can be fitted with Quantum’s Tru-Balance 3 seating system, which supports users up to 136 kg and allows for more advanced positioning. This option can be configured with powered tilt, powered recline and up to 10 degrees of seat elevation, making it possible to change posture throughout the day and manage comfort during longer periods seated. This version is better suited where pressure distribution and repositioning are as important as outdoor capability.
The Outback’s appearance reflects its purpose. It is available in muted matte finishes as well as camouflage colour options that suit its outdoor, adventure-focused character. A range of accessories can be added, including practical items such as a glove box, phone holder and reflectors, allowing the chair to be tailored for longer outdoor trips.
The Quantum Outback suits people who want a powerchair that prioritises terrain capability, stability and range over compact size or tight indoor manoeuvrability. It is not intended to replace smaller everyday chairs for shops or confined spaces, but for countryside paths, parks and challenging outdoor routes, it offers a level of confidence and capability that standard powerchairs cannot match.
