The Quantum Q6 Edge HD is a bariatric powerchair designed to combine high weight capacity with intuitive driving characteristics. Unlike many heavy-duty chairs that rely on front-wheel drive, the Q6 Edge HD uses a mid-wheel drive layout. This gives it a much tighter turning circle and a more natural driving feel, particularly for people new to powered wheelchairs or those who spend significant time indoors.
Mid-wheel drive places the user over the drive wheels, which makes the chair easier to judge when manoeuvring through doorways, corridors and confined spaces. Quantum’s ATX suspension system supports this with controlled movement over thresholds, ramps and outdoor surfaces, helping the chair remain stable and comfortable despite its size. The Q6 Edge HD is fully crash-tested and can be used for occupied transport in a suitably adapted vehicle.
Two seating systems are available. The Synergy seat provides a more straightforward, cost-effective option where advanced seating is not required. For those who spend longer periods in their chair or need greater postural support, the Tru-Balance 3 seating system offers a much wider range of configuration options. Seat size, cushions, backrests, headrests and leg supports can all be specified to manage comfort, pressure and posture.
Powered seating functions are a key strength of the Q6 Edge HD. Powered tilt of up to 45 degrees supports pressure relief, while powered recline of up to 175 degrees allows a fully laid-back position when required. Powered elevating legrests can also be specified. The chair can be upgraded with Quantum’s iLevel seat lift, which allows the chair to be driven at up to 3.5 mph while elevated. This is a significant difference compared to most seat-lift systems, which only allow very slow movement when raised. Being able to drive at eye level can make social interaction and everyday tasks feel more natural and less restrictive. Faster actuators allow the seat to reach full height in under half a minute.
Control options include advanced systems such as R-Net and Q-Logic 3, with colour LCD joystick displays available. These systems allow the chair’s performance, responsiveness and seating functions to be tailored to the user, while keeping operation clear and predictable. Styling is not overlooked, with a choice of shroud colours giving the chair a modern appearance despite its heavy-duty capability.
The Q6 Edge HD suits people who need a bariatric powerchair but do not want the handling compromises often associated with larger frames. It works particularly well where indoor manoeuvrability, advanced powered seating and a confident, intuitive drive are priorities.
