Quantum’s powered wheelchair range is built around prescriptive design rather than “one-size-fits-all” platforms. Across the Edge and 4Front models, the emphasis is on strong chassis engineering, configurable seating, and control systems that can adapt over time as needs change. Where these models differ most clearly is drive configuration, base dimensions, and how they prioritise indoor access versus outdoor performance.
The Edge 3 Stretto is built on the same core platform as the Edge 3 but is designed specifically for narrow access environments. At just 52 cm wide, it is one of the narrowest outdoor-capable powerchairs available, making it particularly effective in tight indoor spaces, narrow corridors, and older properties.
Despite the reduced width, outdoor performance remains strong. The Stretto retains Smooth Ride Suspension, 6 mph performance, and the same 62 Ah batteries as the standard Edge 3. To achieve the narrower footprint, Quantum uses smaller castor wheels and suspension components, but in practice the ride quality is very close to the full-width Edge 3 in most conditions.
Seating options
The Stretto offers a broader choice of seating systems than the standard Edge 3:
-
Contoured seating – basic, non-prescriptive, best for users without positioning needs
-
TB Flex – entry-level prescriptive seating with powered options
-
TRU-Balance 3 – the most common choice, including iLevel, tilt, recline, and elevating leg rests
-
TRU-Balance 4 – premium seating with up to 30° anterior (forward) tilt, useful for functional tasks
Seat sizes range from 12–20 inches. It’s worth noting that larger seat sizes can overhang the narrow base, reducing the benefit of the Stretto’s slim footprint. For this reason, the Stretto is best suited to slimmer or average-build users who genuinely need the reduced width.
Best suited to: users who prioritise indoor access and narrow environments but still need a fully prescriptive, outdoor-capable powerchair.
Quantum Comparison
-
Choose the Edge 3 if you want the most balanced option: excellent indoor manoeuvrability, full prescriptive seating, and advanced seat lift.
-
Choose the Edge 3 Stretto if indoor access and narrow spaces are critical, and your seating size allows you to benefit from the reduced base width.
-
Choose the 4Front 2 if outdoor terrain, kerb climbing, and traction matter more than absolute indoor compactness, and you’re comfortable with front-wheel drive
