The Tekna Advance is a folding wheelchair, but it deliberately avoids looking or behaving like a traditional one. Instead of a visible central crossbrace, it uses a fixed crossbar positioned under the seat, combined with an integrated front frame. This keeps the structure compact and visually clean, and removes much of the mechanical clutter associated with folding designs.
Although it folds for transport, the Tekna feels closer to a rigid chair in everyday use. The frame is shorter and more settled, and there’s less sense of parts moving independently of each other. That feel comes from a conscious trade-off: the Tekna is not designed to be endlessly adjustable after delivery.
Rear wheel position, backrest height and angle, and front seat height can be adjusted, but the chair is intended to be specified correctly from the outset rather than repeatedly reconfigured. In return, you get a tidier frame and a more stable feel when pushing. A wide range of seating options is available, from standard sling setups through to more supportive backrests and pressure-relieving cushions, along with lightweight wheels, ergonomic handrims and performance castors.
The Tekna folds neatly for transport, though it doesn’t collapse as loosely as a traditional cross-brace chair. In practice, that results in a cleaner folded shape with fewer moving parts flapping or shifting. Visually, the design is restrained, with a limited set of frame colours and optional accents that tend to age well.
The Tekna Advance suits people who want a folding chair that feels tight and purposeful rather than mechanical. It’s less suitable if you expect to make frequent or significant adjustments after delivery.
