The Progeo Ego is built around Progeo’s Syncro Motion folding axle, which replaces the traditional crossbrace with a horizontal locking system across the rear of the chair. When the Ego is unfolded and locked, the axle forms a solid structure rather than relying on tension through crossed tubes. In practice, this removes much of the flex that folding chairs are known for.
That difference is noticeable when pushing. Less energy is lost through the frame, and the chair feels more direct and predictable than most folding designs. It still folds down for transport to a size comparable with other active folding chairs, but once open it behaves far more like a rigid chair. That balance — folding convenience without a soft or vague ride — is the Ego’s defining characteristic.
The chair is built to measured dimensions rather than stock sizing. Seat width, depth and heights are set at build, but there is still enough adjustment available afterwards to allow sensible refinement. This makes the Ego more forgiving over time than many performance-led folding chairs. Supportive backrests, including Progeo’s carbon AIR range, can be specified where additional structure is needed.
Despite the unconventional folding mechanism, the Ego remains practical to handle day to day. The open frame design makes it easier to grip and lift than bulkier cross-brace chairs, and there are no awkward protrusions once folded. Component choice is broad, covering wheels, handrims, footrests, sideguards and push handles, with a wide choice of frame and accent colours available without turning the chair into a styling exercise.
The Ego suits people who want a folding chair but don’t want to accept the flexible, inefficient feel that usually comes with one. It’s less appropriate if you’re set on a fully rigid frame or want the simplest possible design with no folding mechanism at all.
