Permobil M Corpus VS

Permobil M Corpus VS

Permobil

The Permobil M Corpus VS combines advanced standing technology with the manoeuvrability of a mid-wheel drive powerchair. It is designed for people who need the health, functional and social benefits of standing, but who also live or work in environments where tight indoor access and turning space matter.

Standing is not simply about being upright. In day-to-day use, standing can change how a person interacts with their environment: reaching work surfaces, maintaining eye-level conversations, reducing prolonged sitting time, and supporting pressure management. In our experience, standing powerchairs are most successful when the standing motion itself is predictable, repeatable, and properly supported — this is where Permobil has built its reputation, and why these chairs are frequently specified within UK case management and complex rehabilitation pathways.

Standing – how Permobil does it differently

The M Corpus VS uses a fully programmable standing sequence, allowing the chair to move you through standing in a controlled, supported way. This means standing can begin from seated, semi-reclined, or fully reclined positions, depending on how you transfer or manage tone. Knee and chest supports provide stability while standing, and can be removed when not required.

Crucially, standing is not a “one-motion” event. The sequence can be adjusted to suit your body, range of movement and comfort — something we fine-tune during assessment and review visits. This is a key reason Permobil standing chairs are trusted for long-term use rather than occasional demonstration.

Mid-wheel drive vs front-wheel drive standing

Traditionally, most standing powerchairs have used front-wheel drive bases. While stable, they are often long and less forgiving indoors. The M Corpus VS applies Permobil’s mid-wheel drive experience — drawing from the standard M5 Corpus for outdoor confidence, while keeping the overall footprint closer to the more compact M3 Corpus.

This makes the M Corpus VS particularly suitable for:

  • homes with tighter corridors or turning areas
  • workplaces where manoeuvrability matters
  • users who prefer the intuitive feel of mid-wheel drive

For users who prioritise outdoor terrain and obstacle handling over indoor compactness, the F5 Corpus VS is often the better comparison.

Active Height and Active Reach – more than seat lift

Permobil’s Active Height allows you to drive at walking pace while elevated — not just paused in place. Unlike some seat lifters that restrict suspension or driving when raised, Permobil maintains full suspension and stability. This allows genuine eye-level interaction while moving, reducing neck strain and making social interaction feel natural rather than staged.

Active Reach builds on this by combining seat elevation with controlled forward tilt. This is not about leaning dangerously forward; it is about bringing your centre of gravity forward in a supported way, allowing you to reach cupboards, worktops, desks, or assist with transfers. This function is unique to Permobil’s seating philosophy and is often underestimated until experienced in person.

Seating, controls and refinement

The M Corpus VS uses Permobil’s Corpus seating system, configured to your exact size and needs. Backrests, cushions (including ROHO options), headrests and lateral supports can all be specified and adjusted over time. Quiet, refined actuators and smooth transitions between positions are a hallmark of the Permobil experience — details that matter if you use these functions many times every day.

R-Net controls come as standard, with extensive programming available. Standing, seating and drive profiles can be personalised, and specialist controls such as head, chin or switch input are commonly used with this model.

Who the M Corpus VS suits best:

People who need standing but also need excellent indoor manoeuvrability, and who value refinement, programmability and long-term reliability.
