The Invacare Aviva RX40 is the flagship powerchair of the Aviva RWD range from Invacare. Boasting larger batteries, higher potential top speeds and higher amperage power modules than the RX20 the RX40 is chosen when 8mph matters and long days of travelling are expected. For almost all other applications the RX20 will more than suffice.
The RX40 is equipped with quiet and efficient motors and the patented CTC suspension system that gives the Aviva range its stability and comfortable drive. For those needing the additional range the RX40 can be fitted with 73.5Ah Gel batteries giving it a real world range of approximately 25 miles.
The RX40 is a rear wheel drive powerchair designed to be used both indoors and outdoors. Chosen for its narrow base (just 56cm) the RX40 is compact and manoeuvrable and when coupled with the LINX technology control system can out perform many of its competitors.
Two different seating systems are available for the RX40 - the standard seat or the modulite seat. Whether the modulite seating or the standard seating is required will become clear during assessment but both can achieve a comfortable and functional setup. The standard seating is the cheaper option, offering a tension adjustable canvas backrest and a standard slab cushion as standard. Typically a more prescriptive cushion will be recommended depending on the nature of the disability and the duration a client is anticipating using the chair. A pressure risk assessment will be conducted during assessment to enable a discussion around pressure management requirements.
For those with additional postural or pressure needs the modulite seating will likely be recommended. The modulite seating is fully prescriptive and enables clients with changeable conditions to feel reassured that if their needs change they won't require a new seating system, just changes to their existing setup.
The RX40 offers tilt in space and powered recline functions for those needing or desiring increased management of their position, while a seat lifter is available to make everyday activities easier and more enjoyable.
The RX40 is equipped as standard with 4mph maximum speed motors and at additional cost these can be upgraded to the 8mph motors. When the 6mph or 8mph motors are selected the lighting package will also be required.
The RX20 and RX40 are almost identical from an aesthetic standpoint with long flat trims and angular corners. An excellent colour pallet to choose from goes some way to increasing the individuality of the chair and it remains one year since launch one of the better looking rear wheel powerchairs on the market. Aa you may expect the RX40 offers additional colours not available on the RX20.
Both the RX20 and RX40 are capable of working with specialist control systems including head arrays. Due to the higher amperage power modules required to run these additional controls it is quite likely that the RX40 base will be needed for anyone needing these additional functions.
